The first days of the workshop were dedicated to explore the city and its surronding in order to  collect rubble . The participants of the workshop went through streets of Rijeka, construction areas, abandoned places to find broken bricks, stones, marble, iron stones  that were neglected or useless.

By breaking them into small pieces or into powder participants were able to mix them with cement and water. By using this rubble in a  local and economic way, they created a new « terrazzo » to mold in wood formworks.  After a few days witch allowed the concrete to dry, participants could demold this new stones. Then, they grind and sand them in order to reveal the rubble hidden in the ciment.

The last step was to oil and vernish this stones to protect them and highlight their colour.

The objects  created are really diverse ( terrazzo floor, tiles, urban furnitures : loudspeakers, steps from a stair, chairs…). The participant designed and realised the object by their own – sometimes in collaboration with other workshops from EASA –  under our supervision.

An important part of the workshop was given to the experimentation on the material.

First days were devoted to the creation of the biggest objects. This way, participants had to work as a team – what was especially important to learn how to use the tools, to check other’s safety…

Once the participants became more autonomous, they were able to work separately or in smaller teams with their own rubbles, to try more specifical ideas.
